Judge Julia Baird, of the Federal Circuit Court, will be presenting on the Federal Circuit Court’s Intellectual Property National pilot scheme which commenced on 1 July this year. Judge Baird is the National IP Practice list judge and Judge in charge of the Court’s National IP Practice Area. Judge Baird commenced with the Court in February 2018. She brings to her role over 25 years’ experience as a specialist IP barrister including 10 years as Senior Counsel at the NSW Bar.
The intellectual property jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court is increasingly broad, comprising proceedings arising under copyright, designs, trade marks and plant breeders’ legislation. In its associated jurisdiction, the Court’s jurisdiction includes passing off and analogous claims under the Australian Consumer Law.
Judge Baird will discuss the Intellectual Property National pilot scheme, and the ways in which IP practitioners can use the Federal Circuit Court to adjudicate IP and related disputes quickly, efficiently and fairly throughout Australia.
Helen Rofe QC will introduce and facilitate the event.
The lecture is free of charge and a video link will be established to Corrs’ Sydney, Brisbane and Perth offices.
